What is FANDOM?
A pop-culture-focused site and wiki platform established in 2004 by Jimmy Wales of Wikipedia; 200M+ monthly uniques across products (through strong SEO)
Team
• 5 engineers, 1 PM and myself
Problem
Consolidate 200+ community apps into 1 unified app per Apple's guidelines
Challenges
FLEXIBILITY Replaced another designer mid-project
SPEED Quick turnaround; 2 weeks to design app end-to-end
COMMUNICATION Engineering team is located 9 hours ahead in Poland
Goal for Documenting Current IA
Articulately illustrate FANDOM’S current IA model for our entire product suite in order to:
help frame new IA proposals
to serve as a clear, visual point of reference as we begin to consolidate our product offerings
to highlight the current painpoints in our model including redundancies

High-level user flows

Process
   • Research / competitive set
   • Wireframing / user flows
   • Visual Design
   • QA
   • Currently iterating on design and testing
User Goals
DISCOVERABILITY — All content types in one place (editorial, UGC and Wikis)
PERSONALIZATION — Allow users to customize their experience by their interests
Business Goals
MIGRATION — Move users from individual community apps into one all-encompassing app
MONETIZATION — Ensure that the new design works seamlessly with our ad package

INCREASE RETENTION — Wiki content historically has low retention (~6% DAU/MAU); App is now close to ~25% DAU/MAU thanks to personalization and push.

Day 1 retention has increased 9% post launch

DAU/MAU is drastically higher for our iOS app than our other products

Proposed IA structure for consolidated app
